The mission of Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation is to improve the lives of the next generation of Jamaicans by creating a world-class education system through investment in infrastructure, resource materials and expertise.

To date, Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation has raised a total of $171,633.00 thanks to our generous sponsors and donors -- and we're still going strong!

Here's a recap of what we've been able to accomplish in 2012 so far, thanks to people like YOU who have supported us all year long:

We've built our fourth school, Long Hill Basic School in Westmoreland, Jamaica.

With our partner, Oracabessa, we are currently funding an infrastructure project at the H.E.A.R.T. Community-Based Vocational Training Centre in Jacks River. (HEART is Jamaica's National Training Agency and, through their 'community-based' training scheme, have worked to establish vocational training centers in communities across Jamaica. The community provides the physical infrastructure -- building, tables, chairs -- and HEART pays the instructors. Visit: http://www.heart-nta.org)

Through our work with our partner, BREDS, we've provided continued funding for two remedial teachers at Sandy Banks Basic Primary School.

Also through BREDS, we've developed a sports education program to students in 11 primary schools, which has since seen an increase in performance and attendance. The program now reached over 1,350 students a week.

The Tryall Fund, in partnership with HHJF, has supplied uniforms and provided ongoing teacher training, implemented nutritious school breakfast and lunch programs, provided workshops on parenting skills and guidance for caregivers to increase literacy skills at home, completed the computerization of the school with a customized literacy program based on the needs of each student, and provided literacy and developmental assessments for each student in addition to health and dental screenings.
